New Goal: Wenatchee Marathon Relay, April 16 2011

New Goal: April 16th is the Wenatchee Marathon. I volunteered to do a 6.5 mile leg. That may not seem like a big goal, but it is. I want to jog the whole 6.5 miles without walking. I have never jogged that far before. I am not close to being able to do it either. So. I think this sounds like a great goal. :) Plus, it will keep me motivated to exercise!!

Last week I started going to Mom's house most mornings to exercise. I went Monday Tuesday Wednesday, and took the rest of the week off for Thanksgiving. Then I went back yesterday (Monday). I took today off because Brody had his 6 month check up.

Here is what I did yesterday:

Total time: 35:15
Total distance: 2 miles
Total calories burned: 201
10 minute walking warm up @ 2.8 mph
3 minutes @ 4.0 mph (jog)
3 minutes @ 3.2 mph (walk)
3 minutes @ 4.2 mph (jog)
3 minutes @3.2 mph (walk)
repeat the last 2 three times.
Cool down walk.

Just a note:
3.2 mph = 18:45 mile time
4.0 mph = 15:00 mile time
4.2 mph = 14:17 mile time

Oktoberfest Half Marathon

I can't believe that I stopped posting the last 2 weeks of my training for the half marathon! I am so bummed I didn't record what I did.

When I went to check my time for the half marathon, I found out that my chip didn't work. So, I don't know my actual time, but here is my best guess based on the pictures (the estimate is from the time the race started, not when I actually crossed the start line):

Oktoberfest: October 2, 2010
3 hours 8 minutes
(Average of 14:35 per mile)

Day 53

6 Miles on the loop
1 hour 25 minutes (14 minute mile)

Everything went great. The arch in my left foot is bothering me a little bit, but not bad.

53 days down, 14 days to go!

Day 50

3.5 Miles
50 Minutes

Today was great again. It took a good mile for my legs to feel ok. I did my normal route with a minor change. Instead of going the whole way up Western Ave to Cherry St I took the canal the last half mile or so and ended at Grandma's house (before going back).
I went to the chiropractor today and he was glad that I came. He fixed me up good! He also told me to start taking glucosamine sulfate. He said that will help build the good tissue around my knees and make them feel better. He also told me to come back the day before the half marathon.

50 days down, 17 to go!

Day 46!

10 Miles (the loop)
2 hours 32 minutes

The loop is beautiful! This was my first time doing it. It went really well!

Day 44

3.3 Miles Jogging (57 minutes) I, know, I know, that's terrible!
On the plus side, I wore my new running shoes, and loved them. My knees just haven't been feeling right. It took a full mile for them to start to feel ok. The jog was really slow today (obviously) but at 5th street on my way home I got a great burst of energy and jogged faster than I ever had. I lasted until Poplar St. I was proud of that. Today was supposed to be a 5 mile day, but I just am worried to over-do it while my knees are feeling like this. I wish I had an extra month to train. I sure didn't expect to have all of these aches and pains.

44 days down, only 23 to go!

Day 39

Today was my long run. I was feeling a little lazy, so my goal was to do 7 miles. Mom and I went to the loop around 7:00. I feel like an old lady. I started out the morning with my hips and knees hurting. During the run the arches in my feet were hurting so much that I walked the last 1 1/2 miles or so! After my run, and all day, the center line of my quad (left leg) hurts really bad. Yikes! What is going on!? It all feels like muscle pain, I don't think I hurt anything.

Also, something exciting!! Today Jared and I went to Performance Footwear and got me a pair of running shoes! He has been so supportive of my running and has been telling me that I need to get a good pair of shoes so I can do the best that I can. How fun!!

39 days down, 28 to go!

Day 37!

4.5 Miles (All jogging except for my warm up/cool down)
1 hour 4 minutes (jogging for 53:55 - Top of Springwater to Cherry St....turnaround...back down Western to Maple St.....turnaround...back to top of Springwater)
Jogging an average of 13.9 minute miles.

Today was great. I get to pass some of my young women while I jog. They are on their way to cross country and soccer practice. It gives me such a boost of energy when I pass someone I know!
My knees are feeling great, however my hips are feeling pretty sore. I am going to go figure out some hip stretches and see if that helps.

37 days down, 30 to go! The race is 1 month from today, HOW EXCITING!!!

Day 35!

4.5 Miles
1 Hour

Today was great! I got back to running my normal route outside. It is taking longer for it to get light in the morning so I had to wait until 6:15 to start! Today I went without my ipod. I thought it would be much harder, but I actually enjoyed it.
I also did something exciting (for me)! I did my warm up walk up to Western Ave, and jogged the entire rest of the time, until my cool down (down Springwater St). I was so excited! I got a burst of energy at about mile 3. I felt like I could go and go and go! This is the longest I have EVER jogged, with NO walking breaks! I am very proud of my accomplishments. This is huge for me!

35 days down, 32 to go!

Day 25!

9 Miles!!!!!!!
2 Hours 15 Minutes

What an achievement, and boost of confidence! When I started today, my goal was to do 6 miles. I thought if I was still feeling good I would try 7. I had no idea that I would be able to do all 9!!! I did a very slow and steady run with walking breaks. I probably jog the same speed as my fast walk, but for some reason it still gives my body a break. It also feels nice to lengthen out my strides while I walk and stretch some of the muscles that are so bunched up when I jog. I loved jogging on the loop. What beautiful views!
(Woke up at 5:00, took 4 ibuprofen, fed Brody, ate 1/2 c. granola cereal and a yogurt, drank probably 55 ounces of water, and out the door by 6:00)

Songs I loved today: Alejandro, Britney Spears Cheerleading mix, Funky Music, Love the Way You Lie, Short Skirt Long Jacket, The World's Greatest.

25 days down, 42 to go! I can do this!

Thursday, August 19, 2010

Day 23!

2.65 Miles
40 minutes

Yay! Today I was able to run, and it felt wonderful! What a great way to start my morning. I took 3 ibuprofen before I started, and also used the knee braces. I didn't go for too long, because Saturday (if I still feel great) will be my long run.

23 days down, 44 to go!

Day 20

I am so bummed!
I tried jogging again today, and once again couldn't do it. This time I was even armed with knee braces. What is going on? Why isn't my body cooperating? I only have 47 days left! Ahhhh!
I think I will try the elliptical later today to at least burn some calories.

20 days down, only 47 to go!

Day 16

2 Miles. :P 1 jogging, 1 walking

Grrrrr! Today I set out to do my normal 4 mile run. I only got to 5th st (almost my mile mark) before I had to stop and turn around because my knees hurt so badly. The walk home was terrible, not only because of the pain, but because of the letdown. I want to recover very quickly, so I can keep going. I hate having to stop for a few days. This does not work with my time line!

16 days down, 51 to go!

Day 14!

4 Miles (Maybe even 4.1 :) )

1 Hr. 5-10 Min.

Today I only took 2 walking breaks, besides my warm up and cool down!!! I was so happy with myself, it felt so great! I have decided that the first 2 miles are the hardest, and the next two are a breeze. Hmm...could it have anything to do with the fact that the 2 miles home are slightly downhill? :)

Mom is letting me use some of her tennis shoes. It was a huge difference today! I felt like I was bouncing on air...kind of.

I can feel that my knees are getting sore again. I am not sure if I am doing something wrong, or if it is just because I have never jogged this much before. Any suggestions? I have been icing them today, and tomorrow is my rest day, so I will be icing tomorrow also.

Songs I loved today: Golden Years, Shook Me All Night Long

14 days down, 53 to go!

Day 13

Today was my cross training day. I went to Mom and Dad's house and did 40 minutes on the elliptical. (sp?)
Exercising feels so great!

Day 10!

3.9 Miles
1 Hour

Today I started with a not-so-great attitude. Brody woke up more than usual last night, and his last feeding of the night started at 4:40. That meant that instead of sleeping "in" until 5:30, I got up even earlier. So, I was a little cranky as I started running. I realized very quickly that that is not a good way to start my run. It took me a long time to get out of that rut. I was thinking negatively the whole way to Cherry St. I almost turned around short of my goal (Cherry St.) at least 3 times, making excuses every time about why I shouldn't go that far. Once I got there, it was a relief. I stopped to stretch and breathe, and stayed a little longer than I should have. Once I was ready to start jogging back home I pumped up the music to my favorite running song and took off. Going home is so much easier because it is downhill quite a bit of the ways. The way home ended up being great. I think I jogged for longer stretches of time than I have before, too!

10 days down, 57 to go!

Tuesday, August 3, 2010

Day 7!

3.9 Miles: 1 hour
Up Western to Cherry St. and back.

I only have about an hour to do my jogging in the morning since Jared has to get ready and get to work. I can't believe I am saying this, but I actually wish I could go longer! I know the amount I am doing isn't much compared to others, but for me it is such a huge accomplishment already! I am so proud of myself for doing this. I really do feel great when I am outside jogging/walking!

Also, I am not jogging the full time. When I get too tired I take a brisk walking break. I try to not walk for too long, just long enough to catch my breath and get myself refreshed. I do feel like I am jogging the most part though.

Songs I liked today: Girlfriend Remix, Big & Chunky, Billionaire, Crazy in Love, Love the Way You Lie, My First Kiss.

7 days down, 60 to go!

Day 6

2.9 Miles
Western to 9th to Maple to 9th and back home.

Another beautiful day! This morning on Western I was able to watch the sun come up. Because of the smokey air, the sun was half orange and half red. Really beautiful. Again, I love my music so much it is all I can do to not burst out singing and dancing.
I am so happy that I am doing this! I have never, EVER been a runner, but for some reason I am doing really well. (At least for me!)

Songs I liked today: Wall to wall, Throwed, This Afternoon, Single Ladies, Save a Horse, Run It, One Time, Lemme Get That, Billionare, How Low.

6 days down, 61 to go!

Thursday, July 29, 2010

Day 2

2.8 Miles
Walk to Poplar, jog to 9th, walk up to Western, jog to Maple St. Same route back.

I can't believe how much I am enjoying this! It is great "me time".

Darn it, I got shin spints after today's jog. Every Saturday a bunch of the girls get together to do the walk/jog together out in Cashmere. They are doing 5 miles tomorrow. I was so excited to go, but I think I better not so I can get rid of the shin splints and not make them worse. I don't want to botch next week. I have a ton of catching up to do anyways! Time to rest...

2 days down, 65 to go!

Day 1: Let's Do This!

Day 1!
(In the last few weeks I have walked a few times for a little bit on the treadmill at mom's house, but I was so bored I could hardly even go for 30 minutes. SO, I am calling this my first official day.)

Start: My house. Up to Western (walked), over to Maple St. and back.

Wow, it is beautiful here! At 6:00 in the morning the weather is great, and it is pretty quiet out. I can't believe what a beautiful place I live in! I love listening to my music as I run, it gets me so pumped...it is all I can do to not break out in dance moves. Seriously!

Goals: To finish the Oktoberfest Half Marathon (October 2nd) and to loose baby weight. I have 30 pounds to go...

1 day down, 66 to go!
